Obama Administration Report Says Calling Police More Dangerous Than Drawing Your Gun

From the Twin Cities Daily Planet comes a story titled "Carry permit holder fends off crowbar wielding intruder." Construction worker Craig Paulson was working in a house when an intruder likely picked a crowbar out of his stash of tool. The intruder then menaced Paulson with the crowbar. Paulson drew his concealed gun and pointed it at the intruder, and the intruder fled. The incident was reported as a burglary, which to me doesn't really tell the whole story. So far, this is run of the mill for people who understand the reality of crime. Here is where it gets interesting. The story goes...

Just another reason to be armed – mother and daughter killed in daytime home invasion

This news report tells how a mother and daughter were killed during a daytime home invasion in Westfield, Indiana. They were killed by blunt force, apparently by only one attacker, although no one knows for sure at this point. "Police say both victims, mother Marylyn Erb, 52, and daughter Kelley Erb, 23, died from blunt force trauma. A relative arrived home, 15000 block of Oak Park Court, around 5 p.m. and found the two unresponsive." This is reported as happening in a very quiet town, in a very quiet area of that quiet town. It appears to be random. "Westfield Police say they are not looking...

Diaper Bags

I missed posting the Black Friday sale from Maxpedition, but I ordered something myself. I have the Maxpedition Versipack and use it every day, but it is a bit small for using a diaper bag for me with three kids. Also, when I go to work I have to bring my briefcase and the Versipack, and it's a lot to carry. I really want to be able to do it all with one bag, so I ordered a Kodiak Gearslinger, which is huge. My husband has a smaller Gearslinger which is really nice but won't fit my laptop. So, I'm trying out the bigger one, and I hope I can fit everything into it. Shipping is very expensive...

Crossbreed Purse Defender

I got an email from Crossbreed advertising their new Purse Defender holster for carrying your gun in your purse. I was interested because it looks like something  I thought of when I ordered the Crossbreed Modular Belly Band. It looks like Crossbreed took their Modular Belly Band Velcro-on holster and paired it with a stiff board with a bend in it to carry in your purse. The bend goes in the bottom of your purse, and the vecro-on holster sticks to the Velcro on the board in your purse. You could theorectically stick it in any purse, but I think it looks like it would only work well if the purse...

Remora’s Bra Holster

Looper Law Enforcement came out with some bra holsters a while ago, and some women really like these. It seems to depend on the woman's particular body shape. I haven't had a chance to try them personally. Remora has come out with a bra holster of their own. Click Here to See Remora's Bra Holster It looks like you can order it for any gun. I wouldn't order it for a gun that is too large. I don't think you're going to have a lot of luck concealing a Glock 19 in there. The white color looks good for trying to conceal under lighter clothing, but it might get grubby pretty fast.

Pre-Black-Friday Sales Concealed Carry Clothing Shopping

If you depend solely on a jacket to conceal your gun, you are stuck keeping the jacket on even if you are hot. It's nice to have some thinner layers on underneath the jacket. If it doesn't get as cold where you live, you can use the thinner layer as your cover garment and you won't have to worry about the jacket as often. Old Navy has flannel shirts for $15 right now, plus it's 20% off if you order online. I don't buy stuff at Old Navy unless it's really marked down, since the quality there is not great. I'm a little sensitive about flannel shirts since I cut my hair really short. I don't...

November Shopping for Blouses and Work Clothes

It is a major pain to find blouses that work well with concealed carry right now. The blouses that I think look pretty good all have more of a tailored fit. A lot of times, I just wear a blouse I have, and I use my jacket to cover my gun. However, this can be really annoying if the office is hot and we might have visitors. I'm stuck with my jacket on. The other day, I was shopping to solve this problem and found a few blouses. For the past year, I have tried very hard to only buy clothing that will work with concealed carry. It's tough sometimes. I violate my rule sometimes, and I did the other...

Why I Will Never Own A Pink Gun

I am old enough to remember when toy guns looked a lot like real guns. There was no orange tip on a toy gun. Toy guns were black, or silver. People decided this wasn't such a great thing, and after that toy guns started to come with orange tips, and then they started to be made in bright kid-friendly colors. Some people repainted their toy guns to look more like real guns. Ok, no biggie, you make your own choices. Then, real gun manufacturers started making pink guns. I thought the pink was an ugly pink. I don't think, in the early days, I ever saw a "pretty" pink. They always look like...

Getting Over Your Fear of Guns

Need some advice about how to get over a fear of guns? This video is how I talk to my friends who are afraid of guns...especially my fellow female friends who are afraid of guns. Gun fear is irrational. Educate yourself about the way a gun works and about gun safety, desensitize yourself to the word "gun" and understand that guns are tools that you can understand and use. I'm just  a regular mom - I can do it and so can you. You need to respect guns and observe all safety rules at all times. Be serious about safety, and get educated about guns. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z61CPsXn6Yo&w=480
